How to Write Your First Ebook

Writing your first eBook may seem like a daunting task. But like many projects, it won't seem so bad when it's broken down into manageable chunks. Not all projects are successful, so don't be too disappointed if your first eBook isn't a best seller. Whatever the outcome of your first eBook, you can at least say 'You did it'.

Like many things in life, what often seems impossible can be attained with the right attitude and the right equipment. It could be a marathon run, climbing a mountain or finding parking space at the supermarket.

If you want to play golf, you will need clubs, balls and some practice. There's no guarantee you will become another Tiger Woods but you will become a golfer.

If you want to write an ebook, you will need a computer, software and some directions. Assuming you have a computer and software or access to them, here are some directions.

Establish Your Reasons

Your reasons for wanting to write an ebook will have a major impact on your success. It may be for financial gain, promoting a business, advancing your career, education, self satisfaction or something entirely different. Whatever your reasons, write them down. It will help to motivate you if the going gets tough.

Choose Your Subject

There are countless subjects that you can write about. It's wise to choose something you have an interest in or knowledge of. It is worthwhile spending time on this. The more you know about your subject, the easier it will be to write about.

Choose Your Title

After you've chosen your subject, you'll need a title for the ebook. It's worth writing down a few different ones before deciding on the one you'll use. This will help to keep your focus and may give you some other ideas. The title should give a clear indication of the content in your book. A catchy title may help to sell it, but remember to balance this with clarity to keep it in context. I've written down two examples. Feel free to use them if you have a sense of humor.

A Clubbers Paradise - Golfing in Ibiza

20 Minutes Late - The Future of Trains

Choose Your Audience

The subject and style of your writing will determine your audience. Decide who your desired audience will be. Age, gender, culture, social background and education are factors you may want to consider. What you write should be targeted at your desired audience.

Write Your Thesis Statement

Although it's possible to write your ebook without a 'thesis statement', it is not recommended. If you are unfamiliar with this term, there are many sources available that will provide you with all the details you need. Unfortunately, there are some differences of opinion that may lead to confusion.

The 'thesis statement' deserves a separate article of its own but for now I have written a general definition of a thesis statement for ebooks. This may leave the door open for criticism but is a small price to pay if it removes some of the confusion. More importantly, it will give you a base on which to start. Only use it as a guideline. If you want a more specific definition, Google is a good place to start your search.

A thesis statement is a sentence or two written to clearly show the reason(s) for your ebook and what you expect to write about.

Although I have referred to this as a general definition, keep in mind that your actual statement should be as specific as possible.

Think of it as the foundation for your ebook. It should contain the following:

1) Your subject

2) Your opinion on the subject

3) A supporting reason for your opinion

4) The significance of 1), 2) and 3)

Create Your Document

Now that you have the foundation, you can begin writing.
A standard application like MS Word is a good choice.
While you are writing your document you can revise your thesis statement at any time up until it is published. This provides a good degree of flexibility.

Choose the format and layout of your document, including chapters, headings and introductions. Dependent on your subject, you may wish to add photographs, anecdotes or testimonials that keep the reader's attention.

Since an ebook is generally read from a screen, you may want to break up the text more than in a printed book. Experiment with a few different fonts and look at other ebooks for ideas you can use. Spell check and save your document regularly. MS Word has an auto recovery feature. This is useful if you don't save the document on a regular basis and later experience a system crash. Always backup your document. As a precaution you should also keep a copy on another media such as CD.

Choose Your Ebook Format

This is a personal choice. You may decide to create an executable (.exe) file or a Portable Document Format (.pdf) file. By no means an exhaustive list, here are some points to consider before you choose.

EXE files are compiled using an ebook compiler

EXE files may offer features that are not available with PDFs

EXE files can only be read on a PC

EXE files don't require any other software to be read

EXE files are easy to open, easily branded, and good viral marketing tools

EXE files may be susceptible to viruses although some compilers offer virus protection

More information on the better compilers can be found at

http://www.ebook-site.com/ebook-compilers.html

PDF files can be created using Adobe Acrobat

PDF files can be created with several other 3rd party applications

PDF files are an industry standard

PDF files can be read by both PC and MAC

PDF files require Adobe Reader to be read

PDF files are highly unlikely to become infected

More information on PDFs can be found on the Adobe website

Create Your Ebook

Create your ebook in your chosen format.
Congratulations you are now an author.

How to Write an Ebook Quickly and Easily

Are you virtually clueless as to how you can multiply the number of your eBooks? Then, let me share with you these 5 remarkable ways that can help you increase your eBook writing in no time:

1. Go with topics that you know very well. Before you write your content, I would recommend that you list down all the things that you would want to write about. Remember, these topics must be aligned with your areas of expertise or the things that you are most passionate about. You must also list down all your skills, specialized knowledge, or information that you think can change the life of your readers. Then, pick the ones that are potentially interesting to your potential clients. When you know your topic by heart, it will be a lot easier for you to figure out the information that you need to include in your content even if you don't perform an extensive research which can take so much time.

2. Go with specific topics. Stay away from broad topics that will require 100-200 pages. Instead, stick with those highly specific ones that you can possibly discuss in 25 pages. Obviously, these are much easier and quicker to write and will allow you to augment the number of your eBooks without really sacrificing their quality.

3. Make use of an outline. This is something that I usually recommend to all ebook writers. An outline will not only make the writing process a lot quicker for you but it will also help you make your content highly organized. Creating an outline can be a piece of cake. You just have to figure out the information that you would like to include in your content and just arrange them in a logical manner. Is that easy! This will help you not to get lost in the writing process making the whole ebook writing endeavor a lot organized.

4. Improve your key boarding skills. If you want to augment the number of your ebooks, you better consider improving your key boarding skills. Stop wasting time finding the right keys and concentrate on putting your thoughts into words. You may improve your skill level by putting your skill into practice everyday and by using free key boarding tools that are available online.

5. Get some help. If you have the money to spare or if you are willing to share your revenue to other people, you may get someone to help you out with other ebook writing-related tasks. Depending on your needs, you can hire ghostwriters, editors, and graphic designers from various freelancing sites.

Handheld Ebook Reader Wars - eReader Formats Or eReader Discount

It is becoming increasingly clear that the big battle, in the handheld eBook reader war, is going to be more about eReader formats than eReader discounts.

Look at the facts. The Nook (Barnes and Noble) and the Daily Edition (Sony), recent releases in to the wireless section of the market, were in danger of cleaning up the very important Christmas sales. But, and it pains me to say it, they have given the Kindle a way back in the short term anyway.

The Nook and the Daily Edition, in fact the whole Sony range, have taken the massive step to include support not only for the Adobe PDF standard but also for the emerging ePub file format. When put like that, it does not seem that important but let me explain further without getting overly technical.

eReader formats allow the handheld eBook reader to handle (read) a specific file format. Perhaps the most common or recognizable to everyone would be the mp3 format. This is an audio format, so if your reader handles.mp3 you can play that format, not the best example I grant you but incidentally most devices do handle mp3. Now two formats that are popular not only for free content but as importantly used by online book stores to distribute text based content, are the.pdf and.epub formats.

It makes sense then, if you want to take advantage of the vast amount of public domain (free) content, that your device has support for these file formats. And you would assume also that manufacturers would be keen to give you these, after all without them you can not shop about for your content. But you may be surprise to learn this was not always the case. Both Sony and the Amazon Kindle started out using proprietary (their own protected) file formats, Sony used the.lrf extension and Amazon the.azw format. Neither offered the.pdf format and the Amazon Kindle offered the mobi pocket format, if you wanted.pdf support you had to turn over the extra to purchase the DX. Sony soon caught up from catching a cold, realized the error of their ways and released a free software update for their prs505 reader.

Then came the second generation handheld ebook readers. Kindle led the way, back in February 09, when they released their Kindle 2. More of an update than anything ground breaking really and again no natural support for ePub or surprisingly the Adobe PDF standard, opting instead to stick with mobi pocket for free content and once again, disappointing, their proprietary AZW standard.

Fast forward then to the back end of the summer, and in the midst of Amazon starting to offer eReader discounts, Sony unveiled their new Edition range. ePub and PDF support, matching Amazon the price of best sellers and increasing the number of titles available at the Sony Book Store. They also offered an entry level model packed with those features for an incredible $199.

Then hard on Sony's heels and later in the year Barnes and Noble brought out the Nook. Wireless connectivity, touch enabled navigation screen and importantly for consumers, epub and pdf support. Brave move as B&N are the biggest high street bookstore and make their money selling books and here they are saying go buy your books from any place you like.

I hope you can see now how it is very important to know which ereader formats are supported by the handheld ebook reader you're thinking of purchasing. Yes price is important, and a trip over to my ebook reader review site will help you in that area, but don't fall in to the trap of purchasing on the size of ereader discount given by the manufacturer over the ereader formats your chosen device will support.

Ebook Profit Secrets - How to Write an E-Course to Market Your Ebook and Build a List Online

Writing and marketing your eBook will require that you come up with regular and organized ideas to promote it. One of the best ideas involves writing an e-course to coincide with each chapter of your eBook. This e-course can be given away to prospects that have shown an interest in your topic. This method of marketing your work can also be very profitable as well. People who sign up to receive your e-course may also end up purchasing affiliate products from you in the future. Here are some ways to write a profitable e-course based on your eBook.

Give your e-course a theme. If you are basing it on one of your chapters, make sure each lesson is related to the topic discussed in that chapter.

Make it easy for visitors to your blog or website to sign up to receive your e-course. You will send it to them in exchange for them giving you their name and email address to be included on your list.

Create it as a multi-part course so that they will receive a new lesson every two or three days over a period of time. This will be one way that your new prospects will come to know and trust you as they receive each new lesson.

Make each lesson interesting. Include tips and ideas that will involve your reader. Invite them to email you if they need more information or have questions.

Add a link to a related affiliate product at the end of each part of your e-course. If people are truly interested in your topic they will be far more likely to purchase a product you are recommending to them.

Even if you have never written an e-course, give this method a try. The people who receive each lesson and are responsive to you will be the ones most likely to purchase you eBook at some point in the future.

No Cost Ebook Sales Using RapidShare Ebook Storage

This article is written specifically to outline the process of how to sell an eBook online without spending a single penny. For someone who really wants to get into making money online the cost of setting up a website and a whole marketing system can be a huge deterrent. Well I'm here to tell you it can be done and you never ever have to spend any money to do it.

The tools you'll need are RapidShare eBook storage, your word processor, Paint.net and any Web 2.0 site that you like.

The first step in the process is to open up your word processor and begin writing your ebook. This can take anywhere from a day to months depending on the scope and length of your ebook and also on your time and dedication. This is the initial stage of your ebook marketing process but it is not the most important stage. Once you have a completed ebook in your hands you can move on the next step on the ebook marketing timeline. You'll want to sign up to RapidShare ebook storage and upload your ebook with them. They will give you a coded url that links directly to your ebook. You won't be able to memorize or remember the link so you'll need to copy and paste it somewhere on your computer. You could even save the link as a bookmark for use later when you need the URL. However you decide to do it, just remember where you put the link.

Next in the ebook marketing process is designing a marketable ebook cover. You can read more on this topic at Ebook Cover Tutorial dot com and get some free training on the subject. Suffice it to say that I have written numerous articles on that topic alone. The training is free and the software is free. Using Paint.net you can get yourself a very nice ebook cover design and create a salable ecover for your ebook. The nicer it is the better your book will sell. Don't underestimate the importance of this step. If you just put up any old ebook cover you will not have the success you want. The design of your ecover is one of the single most important parts of the ebook marketing process.

Once you have designed your ecover or ebook cover you'll need to design a sales page and write your sales copy. The best way to do this is to just research your competition and see what they are doing. Look at the design of their site. Read their copy. How is their sales funnel structured? Are they direct selling or using a free report or newsletter? Once you've figured all this out you can start designing your sales page. I would recommend just using your word processor to create your layout and sales presentation. If you will be using a video sales presentation you can just host it on YouTube and copy the embed code. If you are using graphics and text only then most word processors can handle the job.

Now that you have the exact layout of your sales page where are you going to put it so people can see it? This is where Web 2.0 sites can be very helpful. Sites such as Hubpages, Squidoo, WordPress and others already have page rank. You'll want to sign up for a free account and create your sales page. If you put your sales page on one of these sites chances are you'll be indexed much faster than if you just hosted your own site. You will also want to create an ebook marketing plan to get people to that sales page. Just posting it on those sites is not enough.

On your sales page you'll want to have your graphics, testimonials and sales copy. You'll also want to have a link to your payment system. You can use PayPal, Paydot.com or anything else you like. When you set up your merchant account you'll point the payment completion link to the RapidShare ebook URL that you were provided. You'll want to follow up with your customers with an email response of some sort. You will also want to collect their name and email account for future marketing.

Kindle Portable Ebook Reader

In the past decade or so, there had been many failed attempts at making our reading become smoother and faster. That's until online Book retailer Amazon came along and again made the difference in enhancing the reading experience, with a reading device called the Kindle electronic Book reader. In deft fashion, its extraordinary features for reading are complemented by its novel way of acquiring the very content.

The Amazon Kindle is a user-friendly and portable reader. It has the capability of downloading blogs, Books, newspapers, and magazines. Traditionally, heavy-duty reading meant turning thick pages of paper but nowadays, electronic reading is very different. It is not only mobile but it can also carry your entire library of books and is connected constantly to your bookshop through wireless network.

Unlike other funky devices, the Kindle does not require a personal computer to download its media. Furthermore, syncing is smart and automatic. This electronic book reader is equipped with internet capability through 3G technology on which the Amazon Whispernet service is rendered. This feature comes with the purchase of the reader so users don't have to concern themselves with the wireless service plan, contract, or bills thereafter.

The Amazon Whispernet wireless service is a one-of-a-kind delivery system which enables users to obtain any e-book on its library within a minute. This facility is currently not available outside the US but those who have had a taste of the electronic book reader would know that it's a matter of time that it becomes so. US users can download and sample the beginning pages of books for free before deciding whether to purchase the book or not.

Appearance-wise, this portable reader is as impressive as its capabilities. The crisp black-and-white screen could easily be mistaken for some fine-grade printed paper. The high-tech virtual ink is designed to be just like real ink-on-paper in terms of appearance and readability so much so that there is no backlighting either. Therefore, it would not be difficult to read in bright sunlight and the screen never heats up so you don't have to limit how long you should be reading on that account.

Furthermore, Whispernet makes use of Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (EVDO) data network for people to wirelessly search and download content, browse the internet and sync different devices from anywhere anytime. If you think the maiden Kindle portable reader rocks, you simply have to check out the hugely improved Kindle 2.

You Should Really Hire Someone Else To Create Ebook Covers For You

Now and then, I'll speak to somebody who tells me that they have not published their first e-Book because they are still working on creating a suitable looking e-Book cover. Two things come to mind. First, I am always pleased to hear that people realize that looks matter. In other words, you can have an amazing e-Book that nobody in their right mind would pass up on the opportunity to purchase which fails to sell as well as it should because the cover that has been created looks awful. Just stop and think about that for a moment.

People have a tendency to judge things based on what they look like. If an electronic Book that you have published has a so-called "ecover" that looks abysmal, I can guarantee that you will lose sales. While it is true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I think reasonable people can agree that some of the self-made e-book covers that are out there do not appear to be very professional looking or nice.

The simple solution to this is to hire somebody else to create your e-book cover for you. One way to determine whether or not the individual you are hiring can do a good job is to look at their portfolio of previous e-book covers -- most have a few that you can look at. Best of all, once you establish a good relationship with somebody who does this, you'll never have to worry about having a decent looking e-book cover again. Seriously, it's really important that you have covers that look professional.

Create an eBook With Adobe Acrobat

People use eBooks to help with marketing their products. eBooks assist in increasing sales by offering the public a free eBook with purchase. It also helps with marketing. Giving away eBooks increases author visibility. eBooks can also drive traffic to the author's website. With all these great reasons for creating an eBook, it is no wonder that more and more people are plunging into eBook marketing.

Step One

Before you can begin with the hands-on aspect of creating your eBook, you must first ask yourself what you want your book to be about. What do you have to say to your reader which is relevant? Take some time and brainstorm ideas, the more ideas percolating with the better. Once you have your idea then do some research on it and see if it's been written before. You also need to see if you can find enough research material to expand your idea into book form.

Now it's time to actually to write your rough draft. At this stage, do not worry too much about editing your document. Just write it. You will go back after it's finished to work on editing. After it's written, check for grammar and punctuation. This is a good time to check your verbs make sure they are strong active verbs instead of passive ones. Make sure your manuscript has a logical flow. Once you feel confident with your prose, have a fresh pair of eyes read the document, looking for errors.

Step Two

If you don't already own a copy of the full version of Adobe Acrobat Professional, then make plans to do so. The software costs about $300 to purchase it retail. However, if this software is not within your budget at this time, then try downloading Adobe Acrobat's free trial version to create your eBook. You will have the software for 30-days.

You have the software now it's time to convert your Word document, where your final draft of the book was written, into a PDF file format. The great part of this step is that Adobe created a plug-in called Adobe PDFMaker which is installed automatically when Adobe Acrobat is installed on your computer. This plug-in allows you to set a variety of job options to determine the appearance and functionality of the PDF documents you create.

Step Three

Decide what image you want on your book cover. Create a JPEG thumbnail and attach it to the Adobe PDF document. Then create a thumbnail image of the book cover in GIF, so you can upload this image to the Adobe Content Server. It would also be a good time to enter the book's title, author's name, and other information.

Step Four

After you have customized your document, then it is time to upload your eBook and book cover's image to the Adobe Content Server. Last, set your permissions for the eBook and encrypt it.

Your eBook is now finished.

Ebook Marketing Tips - the A-B-C's of Marketing Your Ebook For Swarms of Traffic and Sales

When you have written an eBook, and are ready to start selling it, there are some things you can do to increase sales and create awareness about what you are offering:

1. Create High Priced and Low Priced Editions

Offer two versions of your eBook - one with a lower price than the other. Explain the features you are offering with each, so that your prospective customers have the option of a cheaper eBook - this is one effective way of marketing ebooks.

2. Design Your Book With A Niche in Mind

Directing content at a particular niche is a better way of marketing ebooks than a generalized work, especially if you fulfil the needs of a particular group of people.

3. Give Your Readers A Good Deal

Try to use an innovative way of attracting customers when marketing ebooks, such giving them a really low price for reading part of the book, and offer the whole book for the full price, if they are interested in reading more. This is also a good way to gauge reader reaction to your ebook.

4. Offer a Glimpse Into Your Book

When you are advertising your ebook, offer your prospects the chance to take a peek at your work. Mention some interesting points, and try to entice your reader with a useful piece of information as a sample of what you are offering.

5. Break it Up!

An interesting option for your readers that could prove profitable for you in the long run is to break your ebook up into several parts and offer the material to your customers in the form of an online newsletter. Marketing ebooks this way has often proved successful.

How to Make an Ebook Your Greatest Salesman

EBooks are definitely here to stay. Bound, printed Books will remain very popular, however the same information distributed in printed material can be sent and received electronically in the form of eBooks. EBooks have become more popular over the past few years and will continue to be a convenient and profitable method for distributing information.

There are different types of ebooks including those designed for marketing. Most marketing ebooks contain links to web pages that promote related products or resources. Marketing ebooks are also known as viral ebooks and have the potential for becoming the writer's greatest salesman. Below are a few steps to ensure that your ebook becomes a profit-generating machine.

First, your ebook needs to be interesting and informative. Don't expect any positive word-of-mouth advertising if your ebook is boring and a waste of time in the minds of it's readers. If your readers view your information as valuable to them, they will be more likely to visit the websites you recommend in your ebook.

Next, make sure that your ebook contains a prominent section stating that readers have permission to give your ebook away. Mass distribution is the key to success. The more your ebook is downloaded, the greater likelihood your valuable information gets in the minds of the public and that you're profiting from readers visiting your website and affiliate links. Give readers permission to post your ebook on their websites as a free giveaway and use it as a bonus or bundle it with other products. This is where having those links in your ebook will pay off.

Finally, before you send your ebook out to the world, double check it for spelling and grammatical errors. It's a really good idea to have someone else proof your ebook as well for mistakes. Grammatical errors in your ebook reflect badly on you as an author and will definitely hinder the success of your ebook campaign, so take the time to get it right before your begin promoting it. Also, be sure that you have tested every link to verify that each one lands on the correct page.

A well-planned, innovative ebook has the potential of becoming a writer's greatest salesmen for years to come and will provide momentum for future projects.

Ebook Writing - How To Write An Ebook As Part Of Your Online Profit System

EBook writing is one way to start selling information products online. Information products are non-fiction topics that people are searching for information about. You can also create audio products and short reports, but writing an eBook will position you as an expert and give you a solid foundation to begin selling online. Here are some common misconceptions about what is needed to write and sell information products on the internet.

People believe they must be an expert in the field they are writing on - Nothing could be further from the truth. If you have personal experience and knowledge in your field you can turn that into a product that will help other people and sell very well online. Also, you can read more Books and do research on your topic to become more of an expert over time.
Your product must be perfect before you can sell it. This is another misconception. Get your product out there and then improve it as time goes on. Many large corporations release products they know are defective, and then spend years updating and enhancing them. You can do the same thing. My first ebook was on real estate marketing. I sold it in its original form and then made changes every month for several months. People still bought it from the very beginning and emailed me regularly to tell me how much they had benefited from the information I included in the ebook.
People think that there are already too many people selling information on their topic. If there are others in your field that is a good thing. It means that people are interested in knowing more and will constantly be looking for additional information. If you think about it, you have probably purchased information from more than one source when you were interested in a topic. I know I have bought more than one book at a time on building websites, blogging, training my Yorkshire terrier, and more. You have probably done the same.

So now it is time to get to work. Working with a mentor can help you to jumpstart your online writing empire and make money with your ebook and other information products.

Ebook Writing Services

There are many things to consider when choosing eBook writing services. These things include the credibility, portfolio, marketing techniques, and much more.

When you choose eBook writing services, you want to verify the credibility of the company. An e-Book ghostwriting service can be found all over the web and it can be very hard to find the right person. Verify the company has a portfolio they can show to you of successes on the web. You should ask for a template of the ebook's structure and how it will look. Make sure you are comfortable with the company's capabilities before you hire them to write your e-book.

When you hire ebook writing services, it is important that they can meet your individual needs. Don't go with a company that gives you a standard letter response and doesn't customize your request based on your needs. You want to work with someone that cares about you as a customer and they know how to get the job done based on your requests.

When you hire a company to write your e-book it is important to find a company that provides custom written content for your e-book. It should be entirely unique. If your e-book contains various articles throughout the web put together into a book this could cause a lawsuit for you. It is plagiarism and very unprofessional. You must go with a company that never copies work and is extremely professional. Also, verify they are a ghostwriting service and that you own the content entirely after receipt and payment of the e-book. Always run your e-book through copyscape before you pay the writer for the work.

When you hire a copywriting service to write an e-book for you it may be of your best interest to see if there are any complaints against the company. If there are complaints you should verify if they seem to be credible or just people whining about useless things. When you hire a writing service it is up to you to do your due diligence to find a company you can trust before you sign a contract or pay for the product.

There are many things to consider when choosing ebook writing services. You want a professional ghostwriter that will give you unique content that is not copied from the web. Verify if the company you hire is credible and there are no complaints against them.

Cheap eBook Readers - Yes, There's A Cheap Kindle

While they're not as popular as other electronic gadgets like the Tablet, cheap eBook readers are slowly finding their niche among readers across different genres.

The good thing is that as more Book titles are finding their way into digital format, more brands of eBook readers have come out and you can now actually buy an eBook reader for $99, although it's not an Amazon Kindle.

But even then, the Kindle, which was first introduced in 2007 has seen a significant cut in price, and you can own a 6-inch Kindle with Wi-Fi for only $139 brand new.

So, why are cheap electronic book readers cheap? And should you be wary that they're a lot cheaper tablet computer or a netbook?

Well, first off, Kindle and its cousins were first made to accommodate the reading public in this digital age. So, as you would expect, most of them have limited functionality compared to the computer.

While 3G versions support Internet browsing and wireless downloading of ebooks, you practically can't do anything else. Also, most of these devices use electronic ink technology - so you don't read anything in color, except of course, when you're reading through a Nook Color.

An inexpensive reader would typically have a smaller 5" to 6" screen, and would make a great companion for people who are traveling.

In all likelihood if you're buying a cheap ebook reader for less than $100, it probably doesn't have any Internet capability, and you'd have to download ebook files on your computer and transfer them to your reader via USB.

Color Nook Ebook Reader? Mystery Solved

There are many different eBook readers from which you can choose from, but why is it that only two seem to wind up standing out? I'll bet you know which ones I'm talking about. The Barnes & Noble eBook reader and the Kindle eBook reader. Call me a product of my environment but I have come to trust both of these names. Why? Because when I think of books I think of Barnes & Noble and I think of Amazon.com who owns Kindle. I know these people sell books. They sell more books than any one, so I know I'm not going to be buying an ereader that I can't get books for. Mystery number one, solved.

So What Is The Difference?

In a brutal battle to develop supremacy in the ebook market, these two giants wield distinctly different technological clubs. Amazon is a tireless brute who in it's bid to strangle the Nook and dominate the market employs the mobi format. This is the same technology used to power up the mobi pocket reader, which Amazon owns. Amazon employs the mobi format and incorporates a file extension for protecting Copy righted material or DRM which stand for digital rights management, so the Kindle has a unique file extension, a hybrid of the two if you will, aptly referred to as .amz. Barnes & Noble uses the epub format which is the standard used by the international digital publishing forum and is short for electronic publication. This is the more widely used format by epublishers but again the Nook also incorporates a file extension for protecting copy righted material. Whew!? So what does this mean to you? These devices will not get along and you will buy books from Amazon if you buy Kindle. You will buy books from Barnes & Noble if buy Nook. Mystery number two, solved.

Why Can't They All Just Get Along?

Inconsistencies in a common ability to down load content has been the hindrance to the ereader since its inception. Assuring that the authors and publishers are compensated for their material is just fair, but the confusion for the consumer is absolutely fatiguing. There are many of us who have trouble getting the "dang thing" to turn on. How can we possibly be expected to understand how to interpret the available file extensions for down loading material from each e reader. We can not. So we know Kindle works and in Amazon we trust, and we know Barnes & Noble is THE place to get books, so who better to trust for an ereader? Mystery three, solved.

Finally, Which one is best?

Both of these products are good. Darn good. You can get about the same number of books from either of them. Both offer good black and white readers, although I tend to lean towards the Nooks because of the file formats provide a more abundant outside source for downloading. For me the answer is simple. I like to read but I like being able to read color magazines. I like to stay connected and the color Nook's built in wifi does just that. It is a nice balance between traditional reading and modern survival tools like an interactive children's book with sound and animation when the traffic backs up, email, web browsing, games, Pandora radio, and lots of apps. For me there is no mystery, the color Nook is a great choice.

Ebook Marketing Strategy - 5 Steps To Massive Ebook Marketing Success

After going through the effort of writing your eBook, the next step comes to develop an eBook marketing strategy and carry it out to market your work. No doubt that while the content of your ebook is important, your ebook marketing strategy will be just as important to the success of your venture. If content is king, then marketing is certainly the queen.

Let's walk through the 5 steps to ebook marketing success:

Step 1: Study Your Market

If you're hoping for your ebook campaign to be a bona fide success, you need to study your market. You may already have done this step when writing your ebook but it is worth the time to go through the process again. You need to understand the demographics (gender, age, income etc) and psychographics (personalities, lifestyles, attitudes etc) of your market so you can craft better campaigns.

Step 2: Study Potential Marketing Avenues

There are endless possibilities to market your ebook, so it will not be possible to spend your time on all of them. Study a few dozen marketing avenues or channels that have potential and can be suitable for marketing you're the topic of your ebook. List out the pros, cons and resources required for each marketing avenue in a document.

Step 3: Choose 3 To 5 Avenues To Focus On

Choose 3 to 5 of the top marketing avenues to focus on, stick with them and master them before you add on more traffic sources to the mix. Article marketing is one top traffic source, and so is pay-per-click advertising, email solo ads, Facebook ads, Craigslist etc.

Step 4: Test and Track Your Results

You need to test and track your advertising results to ensure you are on the right track and also to improve your advertising performance. There is always room for improvement in marketing and advertising. Use an online software like Google Website Optimizer, Hypertracker or AdTrackz to track your campaigns. Test different facets of your ad copy such as your headlines, descriptions, call-to-actions, ad color and so on.

Step 5: Expand Your Marketing Campaign

Once you have found some success with your marketing campaign, you can expand it by investing more funds into your current marketing avenues to bring in more traffic and/or you can generate traffic from more avenues which will give you multiple traffic streams.

A well-planned ebook marketing strategy can make the difference between a wildly successful ebook launch or a mediocre one. Take your time crafting out a suitable strategy and then take massive action!

eBook Catalog Software Resolutions for 2011

When you're gathering more and more eBooks in your life, you need a way to find them once they disappear in to cyberspace. While you might have a fancy shelf on your device, you might not have that same ability on all of your computers. Instead, you might want to try eBook catalog software as this can help you to arrange the Books you have, find them later, and keep them organized for the long term. Here are some eBook catalog software resolutions you should strive to keep in 2011.

Try Out the Software Before You Buy

First things first, you will want to think about trying out eBook catalog software before you buy it. When you look for software online, try to find a company that will offer you a free trial for thirty days. This will give you enough time to figure out if this is the software for you or if you need to find another company. Try to catalog as many of your eBooks as possible to see how the program works, how it can work for you, and what its possible limitations may be. The more you can test things out, the more you can make the best decision about what's right for you. Plus, if it doesn't work out, it was free.

Use the Software You Buy

Once you decide to purchase the eBook catalog software, you will want to use it. Too often, people will buy software, install it, and then never use it. Instead, you will want to make sure that you use the program you buy and that you use it often. Start by cataloging all of your eBooks and then find new ways to arrange them and to organize them within the program. After the initial organization, you will want to make sure that you look for other ways you can arrange the books or that you store additional copies. Try installing the program on as many devices as you can so that you can use it wherever you might be.

Update Often

When you're using the eBook catalog software, you will also want to update your catalog often. Whenever you get a new book, enter it. Whenever you need to adjust the details on something, enter it. The more that you do this, the more you will be able to create a system that allows you to maximize your efficiency. Plus, you're not going to get stuck with additional copies of the same eBook since you'll know what you have and what you don't need to buy. And even if you don't check your catalog, you can make sure that the eBooks you have are in order and easy to find when you need to find them.

If you're thinking about eBook catalog software, there are a number of different products you could buy. When you follow this three-step approach, you can begin to see what product is right for you and what you might need to keep in mind when you're shopping around. There is a proper program for you, but it takes time to find it. In the end, it's worth it.

How to Write a Profitable eBook

Once you've found a profitable niche market, one of the easiest ways to make money in it is to write an eBook. This is not as hard as it sounds if you take it step by step. These eBook creation tips will have you well on your way to your very own product.

If you are overwhelmed at the thought of writing an eBook, just take a deep breath and stop looking at the project as a whole. Ebook creation is much easier if you break it up into small, manageable pieces. The very first step you should take is to come up with a title. When you develop the title first, it will help you focus on the direction that you want to take with your eBook.

If you had to do research for your eBook, go through all of your research and highlight the important points. Learn everything you can about your niche. When you really know the niche product you are writing about, the writing will come almost effortlessly.

The next step in eBook creation is to write down a thesis statement. This is a brief description of the problem that your eBook is addressing and how it will solve this problem. The purpose of this thesis statement is to keep you focused on exactly what the eBook is supposed to be about.

The next step is to outline your eBook. Write down the title of each chapter and underneath the title, list points that you will cover in that chapter. Make sure that each chapter will reinforce your thesis statement. Once you have finished your outline, you're ready to start writing the eBook.

As you are writing your eBook, think about your target market. You want to make sure that you are connecting with them on their level. For example, if you are writing an eBook where the target market is the average health conscious consumer, you are not going to write an eBook that reads like a medical journal. You want to have a nice, conversational, but authoritative tone. This will take some practice. Just pretend that you are sitting with a friend and talking to them about your product. What would you say? How would you say it? Now let's examine the layout of your eBook.

The first section of your eBook should be the introduction. This is a paragraph or two that introduces what your eBook is about. Keep your thesis statement in mind and tell your audience what you are going to tell them in the body of the eBook. Don't make this section all about you or your accomplishments. Make it about what your eBook is going to do for the reader.

After the introduction, just follow the outline and expand on the points that you have listed under each chapter title. Be as thorough as you can without being boring. Break your paragraphs up into small, readable sections.

Once you have finished the body of your eBook, it's time for the conclusion. This is basically a summary of the important points of your eBook. Keep this as brief as possible. Once you are done creating your eBook, don't forget to run a spell check. Nothing will diminish your credibility faster than an eBook that is full of errors. You should also proofread it at least two times and then have a friend or family member read through it. It's a good idea to read it out loud so that you can hear how the book flows.

So now you can see that eBook creation is really not as difficult as it sounds. Just take it one step at time. If you can break it into manageable pieces you will not be overwhelmed and before you know it you'll have a product of your own. Good luck!

Read Online EBook Reader Product Comparison

All this while, people were used to holding a paper-made Book in reading. They have loved the way it looks, the way it feels, and everything about it. That is why when the first Electronic Book Reader was introduced to the public, many became skeptical about how such a device can be much better than reading a real book. In the world of eBook readers, one of the first devices to appear is the Kindle.

Some of the new features that are added into the newer models of Kindle 2 are its Wi-Fi connectivity, built-in dictionary, and the text-to-speech capability which is very helpful to those who are visually handicap. One exceptional advantage of ebook readers compared to those traditional books is on its weight. It never goes more than 500 grams even if you would store thousands of your favorite books in it. Hence, you can bring it anywhere without feeling overloaded.

With the passage of time, a lot more eBook readers came into the picture. Each of them has various features and capabilities. Since everyone wants to have the best among the rest, it would be a savvy move to check on eBook Reader Product Comparison for a much clearer background of those devices. Although these competing units are the same in a way that they allow you to view books in an electronic, battery operated device, their difference mainly lies on their quality.

When you tend to compare these eBook readers, there are few key features that you should look at. One of the things to consider is the size of the device. It shouldn't be too small or too large for you to easily carry it anywhere you go. Another thing that you should check in that eBook reader comparison is the special features of the gadget. You should also make a comparison of their battery life. The longer it can be used before recharging, the better. Apart from those things, other things to consider are the device's storage and the difference in price.

The most popular wireless reading device in the market this time is the Kindle Electronic Reader. Physically, it is designed to be thinner, lighter, and more attractive than the others of its kind. What makes it lovable is that it does not eliminate the feel and mobility of those paper-made books. Even it's screen is much the same as that of a real paper because of its high-resolution. It also allows you to shop directly from this device and download reading materials such as ebooks, magazines, and blogs in a very short period of time.

There's no room for regrets when you decide to buy this Kindle eBook Reader. It provide you with book samples for free before you even decide to either buy that book or not. Most importantly, it is Wi-Fi ready. That means that in anywhere you go, you don't have to search for a hotspot anymore for you to connect to the Internet because it's always connected and it's as mobile as your cell phone. Plus take note, there are no monthly bills to pay.

Kindle 2 - Why Must You Buy a Kindle Ebook Reader?

To be sure, the Kindle eBook reader leaves little doubt by now that a reading revolution is in the making. It has evidently become a current vogue in the white-collared circles. Everyone who has any reason at all to carry one will. For certain groups even, it's an attire to impress or status to flaunt. Whether it's for the pomp or purpose, or both, this gadget is hot.

You don't have to be an avid reader to buy Kindle electronic Book reader but if you are, great! That's what it's all about to start with. Basically the Kindle is a super sheet of electronic paper encased in a hi-tech frame which is equipped with state-of-the-art smartness and features. In much the same way that the mobile phone is cellular, the Kindle is a cellular eBook reader connected to full telecom amenities from anywhere in the country.

The original Kindle wasn't much in appearance to many and if you didn't like the jarring look, well, Amazon listened. Check out the sleek and trim Kindle 2, complete with superb ergonomics this time around for good measure. Now, there's really some resemblance to what people like to refer it as - the iPod of Books. Now, let not the good looks overshadow its functional prowess.

The Kindle may be eye-catching to the admiring onlookers but to the readers themselves, it actually disappears elegantly into the author's world, a feature Amazon greatly prides their superstar product on. The top design objective was to make the reader 'get lost in the reading, not the technology'. Yet, it would be unjust to simply bypass its technology marvel without a mention.

The main distinction of the Kindle electronic book reader from its peers, or rivals if you may, lies in its Whispernet - a wireless service by which contents are transacted and also where Whispersync operates for smart cross-device synchronization. The connectivity is through 3G network and is included when you buy Kindle eBook reader so there's no bill on your part and unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot.

Some say that at the end of the day, the Kindle 2 is just a book but the great thing about this book is that it can be any book you wish anytime, anywhere, out of about 275,000 of them plus magazines and newspapers. Amazon publicly stated that it's their aim to avail any book that's ever printed to all Kindles in the country under 60 seconds. That's quite an audacious goal but they have been bold before, and succeeded.

Ebook Writing - How To Write An Ebook On A Topic That People Are Searching For To Make Huge Profits

EBook writing can be a way to get your information published quickly and make you lots of money. Finding a topic to write about may be a different story. While most topics lend themselves to eBook publication, many do not. Take a look at what you already know about and where your knowledge and experience overlap. Then you must begin your research to see if there are people on the internet who are seeking out information in your area of expertise.

Before you write more than an outline and some possible titles for your Book, start searching for other books that are already available on your topic. Search on the larger search engines, using your keywords as your guide. A keyword is a word or phrase that someone would use when describing your topic. For example, if I am looking for an ebook that would tell me how to find a dance partner to enter a competition, I might search for dance partners, dance competition, find a dance partner, etc. I would not search for the word dance by itself because I would come up with all kinds of information not related to what I was looking for. After doing this for a day or so you should be able to see exactly what words describe your topic and what other ebooks are available to people searching for that same information.

Another way to find out how many people are searching for what you want to write about is to go to a free keyword search site. There you will type in your keywords and it will show you how many people were looking for information on your topic. If very few people are searching for your keywords you will want to refine your idea some more before you write anything. If many people are seeking your information, start writing, right away.

How to Sell Ebook PDF Files

OK, so you have encountered the term "sell eBooks". But what exactly is an eBook and how can you sell them?

An ebook is basically a PDF file that contains information on a topic or product and can be delivered across the internet extremely quickly.

PDF stands for portable data file, and is very easy to create and use.

Typically, a person will write an ebook on a topic or product and compile into a PDF file, then make it available for download for a price. Some ebooks are free, product catalogues for example, but if they are information on how to solve a problem or learn a skill they usually have a download fee involved.

All a customer has to do is visit the site where they can buy the ebook, purchase the ebook, usually via PayPal or some kind of similar shopping cart. Then they will be directed to the download page to receive the file, and within a few seconds the product is on their computer ready to be used.

Now, if you were looking for the "sell ebooks" topic.

It is easy to create and sell an ebook and make money. There are plenty of people out there making money from ebooks, some people are earning a full time income from doing so.

With the typical ebook costing in the region of $20, several sales a day can result in a nice flow of extra income, if you can do a dozen sales a day...

The great part is there is no limit to how many ebooks you can write and sell, and you can also get people to sell them for you.

Most ebook authors will create a book, upload it to their site with the purchasing system set in place, then join an affiliate network to have other people selling the product for them while they then proceed to repeat the process of creating another ebook. If you have 20 affiliates all selling 2 ebooks a day for you, it soon adds up to a nice income, now if you had 5 ebooks going at the same rate.

I am sure you can see the potential in this market.

Some very large corporations did, that is why they released their portable ebook readers and invested millions of dollars into creating and marketing those readers.

The portable ebook reader market is now huge and is, in some arenas, causing the sales of ebooks to outpace paperback sales at 2:1 and even higher.

eBook Design - How Many Pages Should Your eBook Have?

One of the first things you need to decide before you write your eBook is to decide how large to make it. After all, much of what you need to do depends heavily on how large your eBook is.

Of course, how long your eBook needs to be will vary from that demanded by the market. You also need to decide how long your subject needs. After all, your customers are paying for content, not fluff. However, you still need to be in that range in order to be treated seriously.

Unfortunately, the eBook market is currently in flux. Even more unfortunately, that also applies to the number of pages your eBook should have.

One thing that hasn't changed is that the number of pages your eBook should have depends greatly on the purpose you will use it for.

eBooks offered for sale, have been traditionally much shorter than a traditional book. Fifty to one hundred pages was quite common for eBooks. In theory, this was because the eBook was much harder to read and use.

However, with the entry of traditional books into the eBook market there has been pressure to reduce the price of eBooks and also to increase the size to the same size as traditional books. Traditionally, executive books have run from one hundred to two hundred pages. However, like most traditionally published books they are under pressure to increase in size. While the market has been slow to react it is likely that 200 pages will be the new target for eBooks within a few years.

On the other hand, there is, has been and likely always will be a market for the very short eBook of less than 40 pages. These eBooks are used to answer or solve a single question. For example, you might have a report discussing the effect on the market for white papers and reports of changes in the eBook market. These eBooks have been the traditional justification for reduced pages in the eBook market. However, they really are a different but related market. The biggest change that can be expected is the removal of the eBook description and the return to the terms report or white paper. This will allow these mini-eBooks to be sold as a separate market unaffected by the dropping price of eBooks.

Free eBooks are traditionally shorter than a for-sale eBook but longer than the white paper. After all, you don't really want to spend a great deal of effort on something you are going to give away. Traditionally they ran below 50 pages. In fact, many free eBooks were really only reports or white papers. However, even free eBooks will likely be affected by the increased expectations. It is likely that free eBooks will segment into 50 plus page eBooks and shorter free white papers.

Can PayPal Help Me Sell My eBook?

People sometimes wonder if they can actually make their e-Book publishing business run smoothly by utilizing PayPal as a payment processor. Usually, those who ask this question are relatively new to the world of online business. The fact of the matter is, you really can't be in the e-Book publishing business without having some mechanism through which to accept credit cards. The reason why this is so important is because the overwhelming majority of people choose to purchase things on the Internet with a credit or debit card.

Traditionally, e-Book publishers would have to obtain something called a merchant account if they were interested in receiving online payments. The reason why this is not necessary anymore is thanks in large part to the dramatic changes that have taken place within the marketplace. Not only can you accept people's credit cards, but if they choose to pay with their PayPal account, you can also accept their money.

You may wonder, what's the ultimate benefit of using PayPal if you are in the e-Book business? The simple fact of the matter is that you need to have a way to accept payments. Without being able to accept payments, nobody who's interested in purchasing an e-book from you will have a way to actually give you money. After all, it's not like you can really hand somebody cash through the Internet.

Here's the bottom line: PayPal is a fantastic tool that will help you sell your e-book. You will be able to offer it to a lot of different people, and they will have a way to pay you.

Beware of eBook Promoters Who Scam People Online

There are both good and bad promoters of eBooks online. As a writer of a couple of eBooks and a few online articles, I get emails from people wishing to promote my eBook on their websites. The online marketers attempt to coax me into allowing them the use of my eBook on their website, including the pages and text, by promising to help me market my company, thru links back to my website.

Not be an egomaniac, but my company is very highly ranked under my target market keywords and has been since 1996. We know what we are doing and certainly do not need anyone's help doing it. It just fries me all these worthless amateurs telling us they are going to promote our business. Not only do we not need anymore business, it is a slap in the face to think they can do it better than us, as we have been doing it and doing better than any of our competitors for a decade online.

The car wash fundraiser book that I wrote was written to help people, not market our company. I think most of the industry of Internet promoting eBook whores are sick, sure some are legitimate, but they are far and few between. Many are simply scum, they promote crap, put up garbage and hype all over the Internet so you cannot find anything when searching.

If eBook marketers put my book on their site, they lessen my number one Google Search Engine ranking "Car Wash Fundraisers" and re-direct traffic to their site. So they can sell junk on their site and re-direct customers who are interested in my "Free Online eBook" for some expensive hype eBook on how to make a million dollars in your underwear stuffing envelopes 2-hours a day; 3-days per week while watching the new and improved "Buns of Steal Video" and you can have all this and more with free Ginzu Knives if you order now; operators are standing by? Yah right!

Additionally many of these websites are very salesy and they sell crap and dupe people. My information is to help people not screw them into buying some inflated worthless trinkets on the Internet. I am fed up with this BS. And anyone who is legitimate on the Internet selling quality and informational eBooks ought to be upset as well.

If you are assisting folks who sell eBooks in anyway you need to be sure that the people you associate with, do not associate with other people who are scam artists. I hate scammers, they piss me off and sell crap on the Internet and trick people making it hard for real decent people on the Internet. You should be as pissed as I am, even though I am not selling anything on the Internet. I am sick and tired of worthless, spineless, weakness, scammers, promoters of trash on the Internet. Everywhere I look, more scam artists, selling crap, worthless junk.

In my case my eBook is free to the World and the information is real and comes from decades of knowledge; I do not want to promote a business, I want to "GIVE" information, "worthy information" to the world for "Free" what is wrong with that? Is it a crime to help people? Unfortunately for every one of the good folks out there with real world and worthy knowledge selling their eBooks or giving them away, there are 10 scammers selling hype and crap to anyone stupid enough to pay them. It seems everyone has some stupid profit motive in everything you do? What is deal here? Is that the way all everyone online thinks?

Why has everyone got me categorized for some worthless promoter of crap like them, simply because I write articles and submit them online? Many eBook promoters have attempted to recruit my writing talents, assuming that I would lower my standards of ethics and join them in some sort of online hype to scam people. I am not like them, how dare they assume that. Scum. I want these people to stay away from me. I do not want them around or associated with my noble efforts to help people, make them think or give them free information.

Recently sent back this email to an online eBook hype type marketer, who was so busy bragging about how he could promote anything, that he did not even hear what I said when I told him that I was not interested in the least. He kept emailing me so I sent him this email back:

"I am sorry I just cannot let this go, I am going to have to sound off; Listen you son of a bitch, I wrote that eBook about Car Wash Fundraisers to help people; youth sports teams and such which need funds desperately to help kids grow up learning values and team work. Not to promote my company.

For you to assume I that I wrote that book or any of my writings to help the world for the purpose of financial gain, really pisses me off. For you to even think for a second I would allow someone to promote my book and then pay me back for its use to help my company is an insult. Not everyone is so dis-genuine and thinks like you. I do not promote trinket shit on the Internet. Some of us want to help people. That's what I think."

There is nothing wrong with making a profit, but you have totally insulted me, this is the reason I will not ever do business with you. I wanted to make sure you knew the reason, because you seem to think that I would change my mind if I needed business. Let me tell you, if I was living in a paper box, I would have the same answer. You seem to believe that my motives and all business people have motives of only making money. How dare you categorize my noble intentions. Damn you, you son of a bitch, Thanks for listening."

Dear World, just because I have written more online articles on the Internet than anyone else, that does not mean that I would lower my ethics to promote crap. If you are a scam artist stay the hell away from me or I will submit a certified and notorized complaint declaration to the FTC. And don't for one minute think I won't as I already have the forms ready and I have a notary at my bank, with a MBE next door to that to mail it from.

To all the honest, decent and hardworking writers and promotional article submitters, I salute you in all you do. I believe in you and your efforts to bring information to the human race and propel knowledge to the World. Please everyone keep the Internet clean. Think on this.

2 Tips For Making Your Ebook Easier to Read on a Computer Screen

You have probably seen a lot of EBooks as you browse the internet. Some may look very attractive, some not so attractive while some others have very catching titles, words and phrases. Nevertheless, when making your own EBook, you should aim at making it more readable on the screen.

Colors, fonts, pictures won't mean anything if people find it hard to read what you have written on their computer screens. If this is the case, they could end up closing the site and will try their search on a more readable one from your competition. If you don't want this to happen to your Ebook, allow me to give you at least two tips to make your book easier to read on any computer screen.

First, you have to make your font size larger. Remember that people of all ages browse the internet everyday. Not all of them can easily decipher or read the words appearing on the screen. Aside from making the font size of your Ebook larger, refrain from using too complicated fonts. Stick to a simpler font. After all, it is the idea and the thought that matters most.

Mostly, you will be using a white background on your Ebook. Always use a black font on a white background. The contrast will make the words more readable on the screen. Avoid using too many colors, particularly flashy and loud ones. Oftentimes, too much color could be painful to the eye, not to mention the added brightness and radiation coming from the computer screen. Remember that less is always more.

Why you should pass up on most ebooks

Most e-books are re-hashed materials that are practically impossible to grasp unless you have an advanced knowledge of how the internet works. By then, it doesn't matter because you've probably formulated a plan for yourself anyways. Most of them offer something so great, but the e-book isn't half as inspired as the sales page, leaving you with that ripped-off feeling in the end.

Many e-books hold back key information as well. They give you the general knowledge, but they don't give you the "in-between" information that is so crucial to internet success. Very few e-books will give you exactly what you need in order to succeed. It is best to start doing a great amount of research before you start investing tons of money in these e-books.

How to write your own ebook

You can eventually write your own e-book. It would be wise to make sure you actually really know what your talking about. In other words, money talks, so be sure to test your own methods to make sure they work. Otherwise, you'll be ripping people off as well. It's best to keep researching, and achieve success.
