An audience analysis is essentially a study of customer needs and wants. These could either be explicit, implicit or both. The key is to gather as much information as possible so that the final product will be well received by the target audience. In terms of its importance, audience analysis ranks highly with technical writers due to the content of their writing. Therefore, it is particularly important for them to know who their audience is especially in terms of their needs and wants. What they know or do not know, their level of understanding, their perspectives and views as well as expectations are useful information to a writer or speaker.

How Can Audience Analysis Be Better Written?

Understand the meaning and purpose of the analysis. The analysis is all about appreciating the profile and characteristics of a group of people so that an offering can be customized for them. The analysis would help determine, among others, the most appropriate style, tone, format and amount of information required.
Appreciate the need for it. Why write an audience analysis? What is it for? How will an audience analysis help a speaker or writer? Appreciating the value of the analysis will enable it to better focused on factors such as audience background, the situation and context in which the final product will be delivered. Understanding how the analysis will be used by the writer or speaker to tailor their delivery will great help the manner in which the document is written.

The target audience. Who are they?
What would they know or not know in terms of the offering?
What are their personal details such as age, gender, occupation, education, location etc.
Why would they want or need the information? How or why would it be of interest to them?
What would be the situation under which the document will be received? When and where would it be delivered?
What would the needs, wants and expectations of the audience in terms of the subject or topic of the document?
What other special needs might there be and what is the degree to which the document is to be customized?
What would the audience expect to "takeaway" in terms of benefit after reading or hearing the information?

The Important Touches

It is important that the audience analysis is well written. It must be clear, factual and easily understood. Relevant headings would help readability in addition to a suitable layout and good organization of the material. The document must be proofread and edited. Spelling and grammar need to be without error with a good flow to the document for it to be user "friendly".

Cougar Women? Older Women Should Ignore The Age Gap And Have Fun

I have recently encountered the words 'Cougar Women' - a term dreamt up by some male or possibly jealous young female to describe an older woman engaged in a relationship with a younger man. The description 'Cougar Woman' infers a predatory mature woman (35-50+) who hunts, stalks, lusts after and imposes her attentions upon some innocent, inexperienced young male.

The traditional description for the older male who does likewise is, 'Sugar Daddy' -- Would it not be appropriate, in light of today's touted 'equality of the sexes' to apply the description of Panther Daddy? Or, where the male is a cheating spouse, then perhaps 'Cheetah Daddy' may fit the bill? Who knows, if enough people around the world pick up on these descriptions then such terms might ultimately become a part of the English Language.

We all know that in most cultures throughout history (even today) untold numbers of innocent, naive and inexperienced young women have being forced into unsuitable marriages. The financial, social or political benefits from such actions pass generally to males.

Today however (certainly within the western world cultures) the majority of younger male or females involved in relationships with 'Cougar Women' or 'Panther Daddies' are, far from innocent, naive or inexperienced. They are educated and understand that a 'consideration' or 'benefit' forms the part of any contract. Who's to criticise such liaisons where the partners have a clear understanding and appreciation of the terms of engagement? Certainly -- Not this writer. Under the assumption that we all enjoy but one lifetime, then we should live our lives to the full but with the proviso that in doing so we make every effort to avoid hurt to others.

The younger parties in such relationships can gain many benefits that they may not (perhaps due to social position) normally be able to attain in life. The older party will certainly enjoy the boost to their ego and, no doubt the sexual fun and games that will form a major feature of the relationship.

The Cougar Woman and Panther Daddy relationships are but one aspect of the 'Relationship Age Gap' equation. Statistics indicate that 'Older woman - younger man' relationships have increased substantially throughout that past sixty odd years and that great numbers of such relationships are successful and lasting based upon true and solid love connections.

Thanks to technology, health and beauty facilities of the past 60 odd years there is no reason why older woman should suffer the aging process experienced by their hard working great and great-great grand mothers.

So, this now brings me to this word 'Mature'. As I look around at the excellent physical conditions of some of the older ladies that I know, then the word mature should apply more to the 65 plus age range. An old friend of late, at age 60, had the physique and facial looks of a 35-40 year old. Add to that her 'Leo sign' personality and she attracted (sometimes unwanted) the attentions of males as young as 20. In fact she was pestered for dates by a sane, good looking 22 year-old male and although it was of much concern to her 30 year-old son, it was apparent that the lady in question was somewhat thrilled at the attention and, lets be frank about it. What woman wouldn't be?

I once read a biological article that claimed that the female sexuality peeked at the 35-40 age ranges and the male in early twenties. I would attach some credence to that claim based partly upon personal experience and, after reading the draft scripts of a Book written by an acquaintance (Peter) based on his 'Older Woman-Younger man' experiences. He comments that 'where terms of the relationship are understood from the outset (pleasure affair, not a love affair) where the partners experience a powerful mutual instant attraction both physically and mentally, hold strong respect for each other and, perhaps above all, enjoy an unfettered ability to communicate without embarrassment, then such a relationship can develop into an exciting, pleasurable and memorable life experience for both'.

Thank goodness society has changed. Today the older woman, younger man relationship would pass unnoticed. Some 40 years back however, discovery of the relationship would have resulted in the older woman being condemned and ostracized without mercy by society and, principally by her own sisterhood.

I have found Peter's writings of considerable interest because they are based upon the personal diary notes of both parties. So, to the slightly older girls out there ignore the silly terms 'cougar' or 'mature' - if you fancy him, he fancies you and you get on well, then go for it. Doesn't matter if he's younger -- you will both probably have a whale of a time both in and out of the sack? That's the advice of an older gentleman who now unfortunately, is too old to attract a chick and to young to tolerate a geriatric.

An interview may be required at some schools, so please check with each individual school. After 2 years of pre-requisite coursework with high marks, the student then proceed into the pharmacy school, where they complete either 3 or 4 years of pharmacy school coursework. Once completed, the student can opt to a 1 year residency or could go out and practice pharmacy immediately.

The shortest 0-6 years program school is University of the Pacific's (UOP) School of Pharmacy located in Stockton, CA. They offer a program that is as short as 5 years.

Several tests can determine the existence of masses. The initial step involves a physical examination. A firm mass can be felt in the spleen area on palpation. Thereafter, radiographs of the abdomen are performed to determine if the mass is on the spleen and radiographs of the chest is for checking the spread of cancer. Abdominal ultrasound may detect cancer spread to liver and other organs. Blood tests are also carried out.

It may not be obvious before surgery whether the tumor is benign or malignant. If radiographs and ultrasound show spread of tumor to other organs, the tumor is malignant.

If no tumor spread is visible, the mass may or may not be benign. Where the tumor spread is too small to be seen, it may not be obvious if it is benign or malignant until the abdomen is opened.

For both benign and malignant tumors, the recommended treatment is splenectomy. If the cancer spread is minimal, chemotherapy following surgery may prolong the dog's life span.

How To Write a New Year's Resolution That Truly Works

Ah! It is that time of the year again. The magic time when most of us have been close to exhaustion from all the situations we have been through during the old year and we are ready to begin afresh. Blessed is he who invented the concept of the New Year for he has given us hope just when we thought we couldn't take it any longer.

Even for those whose old year was a good one, the idea of a clean slate is short of a miracle.

So here we are at the end of December. The first of January approaching fast and furious and we begin to think about all the great things that we would like to be, do, or have for the next 12 months of our lives.

We keep thinking about this and that, most especially about dieting and exercising, which we can certainly take control, but the rest... we only wish that our life circumstances will change for the better: a better job, a better pay, a loving relationship. Our wishes remain floating in the air and, though we have great hopes we don't take action into making them come true.

For us to succeed, we must write them down. We need to make a list.

So here is my suggestion to you:

1. Separate your wishes into 4 categories, which are the ones the bulk of our wishes fall into: health, relationships, prosperity, and lifestyle. Then, subdivide them into 3 categories each, like this:

a. Health: weight management, nutrition, exercise

b. Relationships: life partner, friends, family

c. Prosperity: finances, business and/or job, possessions

d. Lifestyle: recreation and fun, culture and travel, self-growth and spirituality

2. For each category, brainstorm and write everything that you would absolutely love to have, do, and be.

3. For each item that you wrote, provide details, in a way that you can quantify. For instance: "I will be more loving towards my spouse" does not say much. But, if you can figure out ways in which you can be more loving, write them down with a number. For example: "I will bring my husband coffee in bed every Sunday;" "I will exercise for 30min, 2x/ week." Things like these.

Don't forget to live room for surprises and miracles, because they most likely happen.

4. Visualize the outcome of the things you have written down. How does it feel having received them? Don't lock the outcome; remember that there is always room for improvement.

5. Write down your declarations with a date and the term "I will." For example: "I will bring coffee in bed to my husband every Sunday beginning now." Or, I will weight 120 lb by December of 2007.

6. At the end, write: "This or something better, with gratitude." Date and sign the list.

7. Finally ask yourself the question: What are the infinite possibilities that all this will come into my life in the year of 2007?

8. Don't try to answer the question. Fold your list and put it in a place where you can open at the end of the year. Go about your life and when the time comes open the list up and start checking your blessings.

Overcoming Communication Barriers Between People

When you send a message, you intend to communicate meaning, but the message itself doesn't contain meaning. The meaning exists in your mind and in the mind of your receiver. To understand one another, you and your receiver must share similar meanings for words, gestures, tone of voice, and other symbols.

1. Differences in perception

The world constantly bombards us with information: sights, sounds, scents, and so on. Our minds organize this stream of sensation into a mental map that represents our perception or reality. In no case is the perception of a certain person the same as the world itself, and no two maps are identical. As you view the world, your mind absorbs your experiences in a unique and personal way. Because your perceptions are unique, the ideas you want to express differ from other people's Even when two people have experienced the same event, their mental images of that event will not be identical. As senders, we choose the details that seem important and focus our attention on the most relevant and general, a process known as selective perception. As receivers, we try to fit new details into our existing pattern. If a detail doesn't quite fit, we are inclined to distort the information rather than rearrange the pattern.

2. Incorrect filtering

Filtering is screening out before a message is passed on to someone else. In business, the filters between you and your receiver are many; secretaries, assistants, receptionists, answering machines, etc. Those same gatekeepers may also 'translate' your receiver's ideas and responses before passing them on to you. To overcome filtering barriers, try to establish more than one communication channel, eliminate as many intermediaries as possible, and decrease distortion by condensing message information to the bare essentials.

3. Language problems

When you choose the words for your message, you signal that you are a member of a particular culture or subculture and that you know the code. The nature of your code imposes its own barriers on your message. Barriers also exist because words can be interpreted in more than one way. Language is an arbitrary code that depends on shared definitions, but there's a limit to how completely any of us share the same meaning for a given word. To overcome language barriers, use the most specific and accurate words possible. Always try to use words your audience will understand. Increase the accuracy of your messages by using language that describes rather than evaluates and by presenting observable facts, events, and circumstances.

4. Poor listening

Perhaps the most common barrier to reception is simply a lack of attention on the receiver's part. We all let our minds wander now and then, regardless of how hard we try to concentrate. People are essentially likely to drift off when they are forced to listen to information that is difficult to understand or that has little direct bearing on their own lives. Too few of us simply do not listen well! To overcome barriers, paraphrase what you have understood, try to view the situation through the eyes of other speakers and resist jumping to conclusions. Clarify meaning by asking non-threatening questions, and listen without interrupting.

5. Differing emotional states

Every message contains both a content meaning, which deals with the subject of the message, and a relationship meaning, which suggests the nature of the interaction between sender and receiver. Communication can break down when the receiver reacts negatively to either of these meanings. You may have to deal with people when they are upset or when you are. An upset person tends to ignore or distort what the other person is saying and is often unable to present feelings and ideas effectively. This is not to say that you should avoid all communication when you are emotionally involved, but you should be alert to the greater potential for misunderstanding that accompanies aroused emotions. To overcome emotional barriers, be aware of the feelings that arise in your self and in others as you communicate, and attempt to control them. Most important, be alert to the greater potential for misunderstanding that accompanies emotional messages.

6. Differing backgrounds

Differences in background can be one of the hardest communication barriers to overcome. Age, education, gender, social status, economic position, cultural background, temperament, health, beauty, popularity, religion, political belief, even a passing mood can all separate one person from another and make understanding difficult. To overcome the barriers associated with differing backgrounds, avoid projecting your own background or culture onto others. Clarify your own and understand the background of others, spheres of knowledge, personalities and perceptions and don't assume that certain behaviors mean the same thing to everyone.

I told you in my previous articles that when you see other people in your dreams they shall be interpreted as parts of your own personality, except when you dream about the person you love. When you see this person in your dreams, you can interpret the information you receive in your dreams as if it belongs to that person as it does not refer to your own psychic sphere.

When you see dead people in your dreams, the meaning varies according to the following types:

1. The dead person in your dream was not someone who really died, but that appears dead only in your dream.

2. The dead person you saw in your dream is really dead.

3. The really dead person you saw in your dream is someone that you loved very much and who loved you very much.

1. If you see someone who is alive in real life but appears dead in your dream, you have to interpret this person normally, as if it were a part of your own personality. For example, you see that your friend X is dead. What does X mean to you? How could you characterize him? You believe X is characterized by his or her extreme sincerity. Tips on How to Become a Good Teacher

What's the difference between a good teacher and and a good educator?

A good teacher doesn't just teach a good lesson, but also aims to educate his/her students. Learning how to become a good teacher isn't only about practicing how to write interesting motivating lessons, but also about finding unique ways how to motivate the students beyond the level of the material. A good educator wants his/her students to think for himself in wasys that can be made possible beyond the level of the textBook. In order to do this successfully and on a consistent, plan at least one activity that engages the student beyond the level of the textBook.

Don't be surprised however if suddenly you find yourself spontaneously choosing a new activity. Often this is what happens to new teachers who are experimenting with new and different things.

One way to do this explicitly is to ask students their opinions of various different issues. The more interesting the questions, the better their responses. In my case, I found that I was able to ask questions when I became more spontaneous. In one lesson, I taught my students about poverty using a rap song to my ninth grade students, I told the students that the next lesson they would learn another side to the rap song beginning with vocabulary.

We focused on the social level awareness of targeted vocabulary. I was looking for ways to go beyond what the book had to offer in terms of how to teach vocabulary and thought about connecting the plight of rappers in the seventies to a social action theme?

Knowing my students, I used a graphic organizer and elicited the social action cycle.

Immigrants come → they live in slum areas → they live in poverty → they join gang members → they are controlled by the gang members (Mafia) → they live in hopelessness →together they create violence

I asked the class - what are some ways to take action against this?

One student said, "write social rap songs... it's the way to stop poverty and violence."

"What is the one thing that is going to save an immigrant from not entering this cycle of poverty and hopelessness?

The kids said: "self-awareness."

I asked them "Why?" They answered "education. When you know, you have another choice."

In this case, I tried to stimulate my students in non-academic ways in order to help them acquire the meanings of the targeted words which I wanted them to acquire. As you can see, relating to the students on a more direct personal level doesn't have to be completely innovative. Educating students is actually what good teachers are all about. They try to include opportunities to relate to content in a value-centered way.

Darts Checkouts

It goes without saying that once you are on a double, you must remain calm. Try and keep the same smooth action and follow through as normal in order to avoid snatching the dart. But before you even get to a double you need to put some thought into how you will finish.

Most darts players have their favourite doubles, which they practice and hit often. If you watch a professional game, you will see a certain player regularly leave the same double. It is important to try and leave a double you like and feel confident of hitting. The most common doubles players leave are 20 (double top) and 16. These are both even numbers which ensures if you hit the single part of the segment, you will have another double to aim at next dart. This eliminates the need to hit single numbers, thus giving you more darts and chances at a double. Double top is very popular because most players are already use to aiming at and hitting the twenty segment and therefore only need to raise their aim slightly while keeping the same line to hit the double.

The red bullseye in the centre of the board is worth 50 points and is the highest number you can checkout on with one dart. If you watch a professional darts player throwing,you will notice they will often use the bullseye at some point during their out shot. One instance is when they only have two darts left to throw and have a finish of more than sixty and their opponent is sitting on a possible out shot. For example if you need 67 and only have two darts left, you cannot hit a single number followed by a double as the finish is too high. You could of course go for a treble but if you miss there is no dart at a finish. One option is to go for the treble 17, if you hit it you then have one dart at double 8. However if you miss it but still hit the single 17, you can still throw a dart at the bull to win the leg. It is all about giving yourself the greatest opportunity to win the leg. The bullseye is also used a lot in the build up to a double, again to give you more chances to finish. For example you have 3 darts to throw and require 82, you can go for treble 14 and double top, but if you hit single 14 you would still need 68 with two darts. Most professional players in that situation would aim for the bull with their first dart. The reason is that if they hit it they have left double 16, however if they miss it but hit the green outer ring scoring 25, they are now left with a comfortable two dart finish of 57 (17 & double top). Practice aiming at the bullseye regularly, it will give you more chances to finish and win.

It is important that you learn the various three and two dart outshots required to finish. The more you play darts, these shots will become second nature to you. Once you become familiar with these checkouts you can then taylor your finishing to suit your game. In other words leave your favourite doubles, the ones you like and feel more confident hitting. Remember that aiming to finish on a high even number like 40 or 32 will leave potentially more darts at doubles and chances to win. If you practice the double top and double 16 routes often, it will add a real edge to your game.

Sharp Lower Back Pain - Possible Causes Revealed

In this article, we take a look at the importance of learning the causes of lower back pain, especially if it a sharp shooting kind of pain and determining the causes of origin of the pain.
