Ebook Protection

With the ease with which dishonest customers can distribute your eBook, it's natural to consider your options when it comes to eBook protection.

There are clearly two elements that we need to consider when it comes to protection: protecting your download page and protecting your ebook itself from distribution. After all, if your thank you page is made public then anyone can gain access to it, and it is quite surprising the number of ebook download pages which can actually be found in Google's search results if only you know where to look.

One of the most common sources of download page protection comes in the form of a software application which creates a "dynamic" download page for your customer. That way, when a customer orders the software creates a download page specially for them which only functions for a set period of time or number of downloads with you specify. DLGuard is possibly the most popular and widespread of these applications though I wide variety do exist and there is solution for virtually every budget.

The second element is of course protecting your ebook itself, and here there are some problems. It is far harder to protect a standard PDF file than it is other types of files. There are a few solutions available which will essentially allow you to turn on and off an ebook via the internet. That way, if a customer download your ebook and then asks for a refund you can deactivate their ebook in your own control panel.
